What I’m Reading: Fitness Watch

Oh, I’m so glad someone is doing this. I had thought about doing something like this myself. I’m not as qualified as I should be, but even I can tell that most fitness info available in the main stream media is crap. So, I was quite pleased to stumble upon a new blog called Fitness Watch. Now, its really only new to me as its been up since 2006 and has well over 2,000 posts. They shed some light on the misinformation that is being thrown around as truth in the world of fitness.

Check out Fitness Watch here.

In the meantime, anyone have any recommendations for some good sports watches?

Former Jag Matt Jones Available

On Monday, yes I’m a bit behind on NFL news, the Jacksonville Jaguars cut WR Matt Jones.  Jones has had well publicized legal troubles over that past year or so.  He was recently arrested for violating probation.

Matt Jones is no Terrell Owens…and I mean that in a variety of ways.  He isn’t a Pro-Bowler.  But, he also isn’t a diva or locker room cancer.  Last year Jones caught 65 passes for 761 yards and two touchdowns, after a three games suspension, for a team that by all accounts didn’t want him on the field.  It’s not as though the Jags had a prolific offense where a third stringer could rack up a thousands yards.  This was a woeful offensive team!  Additionally, Jones was drafted in 2005 after being a star quarterback in college.  2008 was only his third season playing WR….not in the NFL…third season ever.

Here is a very talented player that by all accounts is a hard working guy just sitting on top top of the scrap heap.  Talk about another mans treasure.  There are a lot of teams that need a WR.  How long do you think Jones will be out of a job?

The Power of a Food Journal!

During my weight loss journey I lost a good bit of weight without really doing a whole lot. When you’re really overweight just putting the cupcakes down can shed the first 10 to 20 pounds. But, each pound gets harder. As you get closer to your goal weight you will find that there is less and less room for error. And that is where a food journal comes into play. Read more »

Long Time No Post and Health Update

Well, it’s been quite a while.  But, I’m still around.  I still have very little time on my hands and I don’t expect to post as continuously as I once did.  But, I’ve had the itch to blog recently as I’ve once again found myself full of opinions.

One year ago I posted my most recent diet update. At that point I had lost about 20 lbs.  One year later I am even less of a man; over 50 pounds less to be exact!  I’m down well below 200lbs for the first time in four or five years.  I’ve still got a ways to go to hit my goal but I’m excited to have accomplished this feat.

I hit a pretty serious plateau at around the 30 to 35 pound area.  I just couldn’t seem to get past that hurdle.  So, I finally had to break down and start to consistently exercise.  In the process of starting to exercise I found my newest hobby; fitness.  When I find hobbies its not quite the same as with other people.  But, I’ll get to that at another time.

I’ve been spending huge chunks of time reading about fitness, diet and exercise. I’ve also been listening to The Fitcast podcast.  It’s amazing how much there is to learn about fitness.  It’s amazing how many myths, and how much misinformation is being propagated.

That’s all for now.  I’m going to work on composing a few more posts so that I might actually have something worth reading in 2009.

Building the Ergonomic Guitar has a new Forum!

How neat.  It’s not enough to have the most unique guitar site on the planet.  No.  Robert has to create the most unique online guitar community as well. Now you can create your own topics for the guitar design community to encourage and comment on. There are already some interesting topics getting underway.

Obama on the Issues

I’m getting tired of bloggers, and the media on both sides bringing hyperbole into the recent election cycle.  Especially as it relates to Barack Obama.  It seems that from one side of the aisle if you are against the man you must be a racist.  The other side of the aisle seems to only want to talk about his upbringing in Indonesia.  I’ve decided to go right to the issues to show why I won’t vote for him.  As well as why I don’t think that he is the most evil politician this country has faced.

10,000 Hits

Well, this is a benchmark!  I’ve just passed 10,000 posts.  Unfortunately, It comes at a time when I’m not posting very much.  This is the busiest time of year at my job, and the first time that I’ve gone through the busy season.  I’m working my tail off.  But, I’ll get back on track!

Obama the Naive

John Bolton has written an outstanding article today on the foriegn policy gaffes of Senator Obama. Here is one excerpt:

Consider his facile observations about President Kennedy’s first meeting with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, in Vienna in 1961. Obama saw it as a meeting that helped win the Cold War, when in fact it was an embarrassment for the American side. The inexperienced Kennedy performed so poorly that Khrushchev may well have been encouraged to position Soviet missiles in Cuba in 1962, thus precipitating one of the Cold War’s most dangerous crises.

Such realities should cause Obama to become more circumspect, minimizing his off-the-cuff observations about history, grand strategy and diplomacy. In fact, he has done exactly the opposite, exhibiting so many gaps in his knowledge and understanding of world affairs that they have not yet received the attention they deserve. He consistently reveals failings in foreign policy that are far more serious than even his critics had previously imagined.

It’s a shame that the political arena has become more and more like the rock’n'roll arena where style and flash far outweigh substance. We may very well be on the way to electing the most liberal and inexperienced president in our countries history. On most substantive issues John McCain is superior to Obama in his theory and his execution. But due to his stiff nature and his age these things may not matter come November.
