Confessions of A Closet Republican v.s. The Golden Compass

My dear friend Incognito has written an excellent post on her blog regarding the prevailing influence of Secularism in our society, and specifically the Disney movie The Golden Compass. This movie is based on Philip Pullman’s novel “Northern Lights” which is the first part of the trilogy, “His Dark Materials.” Pullman is an avowed and passionate atheist. In his books God is represented as a fumbling and feeble old man who is eventually killed by the children in the novel.

I have no issues with Pullman’s theology. I do have issue with Disney’s attempt to hide the secularist overtones in this film. Disney would like you to think that this is an exciting, fun ride for the whole family. They fail to mention that after your kids become interested in the plot they intend to sucker punch you with thier athiest agenda.

  1. If I hadn’t read the snopes entry about this movie, I would have been excited to see it. Sneaky, sneaky!

  2. I originally received an email about it linked to the snopes article.. from there I did some research. I too have no problem with his beliefs – whatever one chooses to believe is up to them.. but I do have problems with people actively trying to sway another to their way of thinking..

and thanks my firend, for the link. the more parents that are at least aware.. the better. It’s the kids I worry about.
